In Bible class, we sing “Jesus Loves Me” with a rhythm where we slap (gently) our thighs and clap our hands. It is something they might get in trouble for later, but it is what we do to try to keep their attention. When trying to teach them, I sang “yes, Jesus loves me clap, clap” to help them remember to clap twice at the end of the phrase.
You might know a few 3 year olds. If so, you are likely aware of the fact that they don’t always pronounce their letters really well at this point in the game. Nor do they allow things to be done differently from one time to the next.
It is how God made them and it is a blessing. HOWEVER, when you stop by our energetic classroom and hear the song being sung, you may think I have committed an act of pure heresy. You would hear:
“Jesus loves me; this I know for the Bible tells me so.
Yittle ones to Him belong. They are week but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me, “crap, crap.”
Yes, Jesus loves me, “crap, crap.”
Yes, Jesus loves me, “crap, crap.”
The Bible tells me so.”
I tried to forgo the last clap, but sweet little E’cord consistently adds it in. The others have dropped it along with me, but not her! She gives us funny looks when we don't do it, as if to tell us something is very wrong in our singing.
I don’t know what people talk about who don’t tell kid stories. What a boring life for them!
