I frequently find quotes in the secular world that give me a clearer picture of the life of Christ. At Summit this year, John Siburt talked about listening for God's story in the stories of everyone you meet, whether believers or not. I have done this for a long time in listening to music. I have trimmed/edited my collection over the years as a result of content and now don't listen to the radio as much as I once did, unless it is talk radio. (Yes, I am growing into an old fogey)
I will regularly share quotes I have picked up, trying to do that on Mondays. Many of them are just funny. There are some that are convicting statements about our culture. I mostly post funny kid stories on another blog: http://laughterisagoodmedicine.blogspot.com/
Here is a quote from a song that talks about going to a river to get clean b/c of the mess he feels he has become. I think I recall that being a biblical kind of thing, do you? Walt Wilkins is one of the most spiritually-focused secular songwriters I know about. I'd love to hear about ones you have found as well.
"Life is hard, get used to it.
Sometimes the skin life gave you feels like a bad fit.
Sometimes the world makes it hard to believe in anything still beautiful, still free.
Everyone needs a river, a place to feel clean again.
Everyone needs a river. I'm gonna jump right in."
Walt Wilkins
