Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love isn't jealous.
It doesn't sing its own praises.
It isn't arrogant.
It isn't rude.
It doesn't think about itself.
It isn't irritable.
It doesn't keep track of wrongs.
It isn't happy when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth.
Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping,
never gives up.
One of our housedads, Jason, recently challenged us to read this scripture and replace “love” or “it” with our own names. I found this to be convicting. Can I say “Shiann doesn’t keep track of wrongs” as if it is a given? NO! It may be something I have mastered today , when I don’t have a sinus infection, my arms aren’t flappy, my back feels fine, all my guys are doing well, I’ve gotten enough sleep, the house is clean, there is no laundry, the bills are paid, chocolate has no calories though tasting amazing, the air smells fresh and clean, etc. However, these days are few (like never). I hope that one day more than one of these could be said to be a given for me.
True love, the love from above is the example here, and not me. I just pray I don’t muss up the example I show to others. Will you walk with me in this quest?
I'm in for the quest! Thank you for the challenge.Kara
ReplyDeleteBefore I read your blog, I read the 1st 2 lines of the verse, and I thought, "Hmm, I wonder if we only use this verse to see how we are to love others. What about reading these verses to understand how we are to love ourselves?" Aren't we impatient and unkind to ourselves too often? When we feel racked with guilt, don't we drum up all the wrongs we have done? If so, we are not loving ourselves the way we are commanded to. Just a thought. I love your thoughts as well. Very eye-opening.AJ
